>> THE STORY :: THE DOCUMENTED HISTORY, ON THE WIRE

01
ORIGIN
It begins with a dream — then the phone rings. ⚠︎
Rodney Jerkins says he was brought onto the album after a dream — the night before Carole Bayer Sager called him. A single-narrator account, retold across interviews; still intercept tier, not documented.

INTERCEPT ┤ N-01 — THE DREAM, THE CALL, THE ASK
> JERKINS, on the dream: “I was on my way to the studio and it was all glass… it was Michael with a red shirt on… The phone rings an hour later… Carole Bayer Sager says, ‘Ronnie, I'm a big fan of you… would you be interested in writing with me and Michael Jackson?’”
> on the commitment ask, per Jerkins — Jackson: “You really got to dig deep if you're going to work with me… We're gonna be spending the next year working on my project.”

'99 vs '00
Two credible sources, a year apart. ⚠︎
Jerkins dates his first session with Jackson to February 1999, age 21 — his own recollection . But Carole Bayer Sager's memoir places her suggesting Jerkins to Jackson in February 2000, roughly a full year later . Both are named, both credible — a repeated first-person interview against a published memoir. We present both dated versions and resolve neither; the side-by-side lives on the Jerkins page.

THE WORD
The lyric says she is invincible. The album claims the word anyway.
A thematic inversion sits at the album's center: the song “Invincible” is about romantic defeat — she's the one who's invincible, not him — while the album takes the word for the artist regardless. Jackson wasn't naming the record after the song's story. He was claiming the word itself.

INTERCEPT ┤ N-03 — JACKSON, ON THE TITLE
> JACKSON, when the title was announced: “I'm so proud and honoured that I've been chosen from the heavens… or whatever it is, to be ‘Invincible’… and to just continue to grow and to serve the people with wonderful entertainment.”

? OPEN QUESTION — ON THE PAGE, UNANSWERED
The song itself — as distinct from the Jerkins-relationship origin story — has no dedicated making-of account. An honest gap; we won't pad it with onboarding material that belongs to a person page.
